Infiniti announced that production of their new, lightweight twin-turbo V6 engine has started at the Iwaki plant in Japan.
The new unit is the lightest, most powerful and fuel-efficient V6 Infiniti has ever offered, and it will debut under in the new Q50 and Q60 coupe.
Infiniti’s new V6 will be available in two power outputs, 304PS or 405PS (300hp-400hp), with the European market getting only the more powerful version. Codenamed VR30, the twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 will be built at the Iwaki engine plant in Japan.
One of the highlights is the modified turbine speed sensor and the overhauled turbine blade design, which allows for 10 percent increase in turbine speeds, making the turbochargers spin at 220,000 rpm.
Infiniti has also worked hard on optimizing the valve timing by installing a small electric motor to the valve timing system and thus claiming class-leading throttle response.

The first model to get the new engine will be the 2016 Q50, with the new Q60 coupe to follow on a later date.
